Part 1 in this series exhibited a leaf for the month of February in an unknown Book of Hours. See<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/a-kalendar-leaf-for-february-from-northern-france\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" class=\"broken_link\">A Latin Kalendar Leaf for February from Northern France<\/a> at the DRAGEN Lab.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now in Part 2 we consider a leaf with musical chants from a liturgical book so far unknown.<\/p>\n<p>Standing on its own, without identifying inscriptions or other marks to indicate its origin, date and place of production, early and subsequent ownership, or other features of its transmission, the leaf must or can speak for itself.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h1>II. Leaf with Liturgical Chants<\/h1>\n<p>On the recto, the chants open with <em>Scitis quia post buduum Pascha fiet<\/em>, from the text of Matthew 26:2. The enlarged initial for this text is written in black ink like the text; other enlarged initials for other chants are in red.<\/p>\n<p>The verso finishes mid-word at the beginning of a chant, <em>Si<\/em>[. . . ]<em>tio Con<\/em>-.<\/p>\n<p>The first chant corresponds with an item in the <a href=\"https:\/\/cantusdatabase.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cantus Database<\/a>, for which only one other source is cited, also preserved in Ontario albeit in a different university&#8217;s collection.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cantusdatabase.org\/chant\/1002741\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Number 1002741<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>= St. Catharines (ON), Brock University Library &#8211; Archives and Special Collections, RG 394 (fragment).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/cantusdatabase.org\/institution\/30\">St. Catharines (ON), Brock University Library &#8211; Archives and Special Collections (CDN-STCbul)<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<dl>\n<dd><\/dd>\n<dd>&#8220;A single parchment leaf from a liturgical manuscript.
