Comic books, <em>par excellence<\/em>, along with their popular forerunners in medieval narratives of many kinds in which sequential series of images accompany or take over the story.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>The Backstory<\/h2>\n<p>By invitation, <a href=\"https:\/\/independent.academia.edu\/JesseHurlbut\/CurriculumVitae\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jesse D. Hurlbut<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Now he returns to describe his current project on comic books and manuscripts, which he mentioned in last year&#8217;s Episode.<\/p>\n<p>Following his presentation, there will be scope for discussion.<\/p>\n<h2>The Plan<\/h2>\n<div>In Jesse&#8217;s words:<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">It is not rare to hear the playful suggestion that such-and-such manuscript, tapestry, stained glass sequence, or architectural frieze can be read like a comic book.
