{"id":18824,"date":"2024-05-03T03:47:58","date_gmt":"2024-05-03T03:47:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/?page_id=18824"},"modified":"2024-05-03T03:47:58","modified_gmt":"2024-05-03T03:47:58","slug":"porreca-2024-congress","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/porreca-2024-congress\/","title":{"rendered":"Porreca (2024 Congress)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>David Porreca<br \/>\n(<em>University of Waterloo<\/em>)<\/h2>\n<h2>&#8220;The\u00a0<em>Septem tractatus seu capitula Hermetis Trismegisti<\/em>:<br \/>\nToward a Critical Edition&#8221;<\/h2>\n<h3>Abstract of Paper<br \/>\npresented at the 59th International Congress on Medieval Studies<br \/>\n(Kalamazoo, 2024)<\/h3>\n<h4>Session on &#8220;Alchemical Manuscripts, Printed Books, and Materials&#8221;<\/h4>\n<p><strong>Co-Sponsored by the Societas Magica<br \/>\nand the Research Group on Manuscript Evidence<\/strong><\/p>\n<h4>Organized by David Porreca<\/h4>\n<h4><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/2024-international-congress-on-medieval-studies-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2024 Congress Program<\/a><\/h4>\n<p><strong>Abstract:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In their 2001 survey of texts attributed to <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hermes_Trismegistus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hermes Trismegistus<\/a>, Paolo Lucentini and Antonella Sannino produced a 126-page handlist tallying 46 separate titles.\u00a0 Of these, only one is relevant to the science of alchemy.\u00a0 The list is missing one treatise, however:\u00a0 the <em>Septem tractatus seu capitula Hermetis Trismegisti<\/em>, which will be the focus on this paper.<\/p>\n<p>The intent is to engage in a survey of the twenty surviving manuscripts, as well as the two early modern printed editions.
