On the range, see:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/events-list\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RGME Events<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/congress-activities\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RGME Congress Activities<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Like the other events, the Symposia have taken place in various centers, hosted by institutions of many kinds.<\/p>\n<h2>Before the Symposia<\/h2>\n<p>The earlier years of the RGME in the United Kingdom, as part of a major Research Project, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, saw a regular stream of workshops and seminars devoted to subjects central or related in multiple ways to the work of the project.\u00a0 The records for those events are surveyed on our website.\u00a0 See, for example,<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/seminars-on-the-evidence-of-manuscripts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Seminars on \u201cThe Evidence of Manuscripts\u201d<\/a> (1989\u20131995)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We also engaged in activities at conferences.\u00a0 See, for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/profile\/sponsored-sessions-at-the-international-congress-on-medieval-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sponsored Sessions at the International Congress on Medieval Studies<\/a> (1993\u20121995, 1997, and 2003\u2012)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/profile\/co-sponsored-sessions-at-the-international-congress-on-medieval-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Co-Sponsored Sessions at the International Congress on Medieval Studies<\/a> (2006\u2012)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>First Series:<br \/>\nAnnual Symposia on &#8220;The Transmission of the Bible&#8221;<br \/>\n(1995\u20132000)<\/h2>\n<p>The tradition of <strong>RGME Symposia<\/strong> began soon after the move of the RGME, as an international scholarly society, from England (where it had been founded in 1989) to its new base in Princeton, New Jersey, in October 1994.<\/p>\n<p>At the invitation of our Associate, Jane Rosenthal, it began with the first at Barnard College in 1995. This inaugural event turned into the series of <strong>Annual Symposia on <a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/symposia-on-the-transmission-of-the-bible\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;The Transmission of the Bible&#8221;<\/a><\/strong> (1995\u20132000). Others in the series followed, by turns, at Princeton University (1996 and 1999), Rutgers University (1997 and 2000), and Fordham University (1998). or &#8216;triptych-style&#8217; Booklet.\u00a0 Soon in the series, the authors&#8217; titles for their presentations were accompanied by very brief &#8216;Abstracts&#8217; describing the subject, scope, and significance of the subjects.<\/p>\n<p>From these early beginnings there emerged, over time, the custom of publishing Program Booklets for the Symposia.<\/p>\n<p>As RGME Publications continued to emerge for various projects and events, the Symposium Booklets continued to set the standard for providing information about the program and the presentations of the event.\u00a0 With this development came longer Abstracts (resembling the abstracts required for conference papers) and then, in time, accompanying illustrations; so, too, the front covers of the booklets acquired their own characteristic styles.\u00a0 See, for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/profile\/publications\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RGME Publications<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>The &#8220;New Series&#8221; (2002\u20132020, at intervals)<\/h2>\n<p>Then, for a time, after the first series, we concentrated energies on other activities \u2014 such as sponsored and co-sponsored conference sessions, and the work to form our nonprofit educational corporation (from 1999 onwards) \u2014 until our <strong>Symposia (or Colloquia)<\/strong> resumed as a <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/the-new-series\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New Series<\/a> <\/strong>on various subjects.\u00a0 They took place variously at the British Museum (2002), The Ohio State University (2003), and Princeton University (2009, 2013, 2014, 2016, and 2019\u20132020).<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8721 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2001-Workshop-Program-Page-1-with-border-229x300.png\" alt=\"2001 Workshop Program Page 1\" width=\"229\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2001-Workshop-Program-Page-1-with-border-229x300.png 229w, https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2001-Workshop-Program-Page-1-with-border-114x150.png 114w, https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/2001-Workshop-Program-Page-1-with-border.png 603w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 229px) 100vw, 229px\" \/>An inaugural event, called a<strong> Workshop<\/strong>, at The College of New Jersey in 2001, at the invitation of our Associate, Celia Chazelle, paved the way for this New Series of RGME scholarly events which would stand outside our activities at the annual International Congress on Medieval Studies.\u00a0 There followed several <strong>Colloquia<\/strong>, held in various centers in the United States and England.<\/p>\n<p>For these events, the RGME provided <strong>Posters<\/strong> and <strong>Booklets<\/strong>, in various combinations.\u00a0 That is, some events had booklets, and some had both booklets and posters.\u00a0 Sometimes, an event would have two posters, in two versions according with the multiplicity of subjects, and sometimes with a first version as a <strong>Save-the-Date Poster<\/strong> and a second with a fuller <strong>Announcement<\/strong> (as reminder and refresher) as the event approached.<\/p>\n<p>The sequence:<\/p>\n<h3><strong>I. (2013), the Symposia are accompanied by Program Booklets which present the Program and the Abstracts of the Presentations.\u00a0 Starting with \u201cRecollections of the Past\u201d (2014), the Booklets include illustrations.<\/p>\n<p>Set in our multilingual digital font, <a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/bembino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">RGME Bembino<\/a> and laid out by our Font Designer, the Booklets are designed for distribution at the event itself, then released for circulation more widely in downloadable form.\u00a0 (See the individual event for its downloadable publication.)<\/p>\n<p>Even the cancelled Spring Symposium of 2020 has its completed Program Booklet, honoring the concerted intentions of our contributors for presentation at the event.<\/p>\n<h2>Interim (2021)<\/h2>\n<p>With Covid lockdown from early Spring 2020 onward, we waited until in-person events might resume, and turned our attention to other modes of scholarly activity.<\/p>\n<p>Among them were more blogposts for our two blogs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/congress-activities\">Congress Activities<\/a>, mostly at the <a href=\"https:\/\/wmich.edu\/medievalcongress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Congress on Medieval Studies<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/manuscript-studies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Manuscript Studies Blog<\/a>, for which there is a <a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/manuscript-studies\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Contents List<\/a> arranged by categories.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>They address<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">1) <strong>&#8220;Congress Activities&#8221;<\/strong>, to announce our activities at the annual <a href=\"https:\/\/wmich.edu\/medievalcongress\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">International Congress on Medieval Studies<\/a> (and other conferences) and report their scholarly sessions,<br \/>\n<em>and<\/em><br \/>\n2) <strong>&#8220;Manuscript Studies&#8221;<\/strong>, to report discoveries, observations, and reflections on manuscripts, related media, and other topics.<\/p>\n<p>By this time, our Congress sessions had come to comprise both sponsored sessions and those co-sponsored with other organizations, starting with the <a href=\"https:\/\/societasmagica.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Societas Magica<\/a>.\u00a0 For the range, see our:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/profile\/sponsored-sessions-at-the-international-congress-on-medieval-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sponsored Sessions at the International Congress on Medieval Studies<\/a> (1993\u20121995, 1997, and 2003\u2012)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/profile\/co-sponsored-sessions-at-the-international-congress-on-medieval-studies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Co-Sponsored Sessions at the International Congress on Medieval Studies<\/a> (2006\u2012)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Online Transition (2021\u2013)<\/h2>\n<p>In 2021, we began to hold online activities.\u00a0 Not only did they include the appearance of our sessions at the International Congress on Medieval Studies, but also they adopted an online approach for our own meetings and events.\u00a0 For them, a Zoom subscription was required;
