{"id":10810,"date":"2018-03-12T01:40:55","date_gmt":"2018-03-12T01:40:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/?page_id=10810"},"modified":"2026-02-25T03:31:30","modified_gmt":"2026-02-25T03:31:30","slug":"multi-lingual-bembino","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/multi-lingual-bembino\/","title":{"rendered":"Multi-Lingual Bembino"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\">Examples of Our Font<br \/>\nin Multiple Languages<\/h2>\n<p>[Posted on 12 March 2018, with updates on 3 June 2018]<\/p>\n<p>We offer a new booklet for our multi-lingual digital font <a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/bembino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bembino<\/a>, to stand alongside the &#8220;Bembino&#8221; Booklet which describes and illustrates the font.\u00a0 That booklet and the font itself (now in <a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/bembino-version-1-5-2018\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Version 1.5<\/a>) are available for FREE on our <a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/bembino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bembino<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>With our update [3 June 2018], we launch this new booklet in a new version (let&#8217;s call it Version 1.1), now including a specimen in Old Norse, as requested by our Associate Robert Bjork at the 2018 Congress.<\/p>\n<p>See the <a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/2018-international-congress-on-medieval-studies-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2018 International Congress On Manuscript Studies Report<\/a>. We respond readily to requests (see below)<\/p>\n<h3>The Examples in a Booklet<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Cover-Page-from-MultiLingual_pages-with-border.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-10800 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Cover-Page-from-MultiLingual_pages-with-border.png\" alt=\"Cover Page from MultiLingual_pages with border\" width=\"616\" height=\"796\" srcset=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Cover-Page-from-MultiLingual_pages-with-border.png 616w, https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Cover-Page-from-MultiLingual_pages-with-border-116x150.png 116w, https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/03\/Cover-Page-from-MultiLingual_pages-with-border-232x300.png 232w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 616px) 100vw, 616px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As described on its front cover,<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">This booklet contains examples of some of the wide range of languages that can be typeset using the Research Group on Manuscript Evidence <a href=\"https:\/\/manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/bembino\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;Bembino&#8217;<\/a> font.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The chosen text is the same for all examples: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Book_of_Exodus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exodus<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+20&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chapter 20 verses 1\u201317<\/a>, one of the sets of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ten_Commandments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;Ten Commandments&#8217;<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Old_Testament\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Old Testament<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The languages are listed in alphabetical order by their English name (so <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Welsh_language\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;Welsh&#8217;<\/a> rather than &#8216;Cymraeg&#8217;).<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">The set of languages presented here is not exhaustive. Many of the languages that use basic Latin are omitted, as are the languages for some of the former Russian Federation countries that use <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Cyrillic_script\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cyrillic<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h3>The Specimen Text<\/h3>\n<p>The chosen text displays: <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Book_of_Exodus\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exodus<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+20&amp;version=KJV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chapter 20 verses 1\u201317<\/a>, one of the sets of the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ten_Commandments\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8216;Ten Commandments&#8217;<\/a> in the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Old_Testament\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Old Testament<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A venerable full-page illustration of the 2-tiered reception and distribution of the Ten Commandments appears in one of the large-format Latin Vulgate Bibles produced at the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Marmoutier_Abbey,_Tours\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abbey of Saint Martin of Tours<\/a> during the time of its Anglo-Saxon Abbot <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Alcuin\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alcuin<\/a>.
