Bernhardt\u2013House<br \/>\n<a href=\"http:\/\/www.manuscriptevidence.org\/wpme\/2018-international-congress-on-medieval-studies-program\/\" target=\"_blank\">2018 Congress Program<\/a><\/h4>\n<p>[<em>Published on 19 February 2018<\/em>]<\/p>\n<p>*****<\/p>\n<p>As I am currently completing the final edits to a monograph devoted to the contextual analysis of <em>dru\u00eddecht<\/em> (\u201cmagic\u201d, \u201cdruidic practice\u201d), which is an abstract noun based on the Old Irish <em>dru\u00ed<\/em>, or \u201cdruid,\u201d I am extremely aware of the breadth of terminology concerning magical practices in medieval Irish texts. As my current research on the perception of <em>dru\u00eddecht<\/em> draws to a close, my interest is shifting toward a gendered examination of supernatural practitioners portrayed in early Irish textual material.<\/p>\n<p>This paper will analyze the terminology for female magical practitioners within medieval Irish religious, narrative, and normative texts.
