Abstracts of Papers for Symposia, Workshops & Colloquia

Abstracts of Papers
at our Symposia, Workshops & Colloquia

Here Listed by Year

Please Note.  For convenience, we distinguish between the Sessions and other Activities which we sponsor and co-sponsor at the annual International Congress on Medieval Studies at Kalamazoo in May, and the Events of other kinds, including Symposia, Colloquia, Workshops, and Seminars, which we organize at other centers.  Here we focus on those Events.

For convenience, we group the Events according to

I.  The Abstracts of Papers published on our website for the Events can be accessed in two ways.

A.  Seminars (Etc) on ‘The Evidence of Manuscripts’ from 1989 to 1994

B.  Symposia (Etc) on various subjects, from 1995 onwards.

Here we present the Abstracts for the Symposia and other Events (1995–)

They can be accessed both

1) By Year of Presentation and then by Author, listed alphabetically by last name: You are here.
2) By Author, listed alphabetically, and then chronologically by Year of Presentation [IN PREPARATION]

II.  Elsewhere we list the Abstracts published, as their Authors wish, for some of our Sessions (since 2007) at the International Congress on Medieval Studies.  They include both our

All the Abstracts for those Sessions are accessible by Indexes both

1) By Author
2) By Year

Before our first website, Abstracts of some Papers in our Sponsored Sessions appeared in the Old English Newsletter, as reported below, with our Index to their Authors and Years.

Now we begin to produce a list of the Authors of the Abstracts published in our Program Booklets for our Events elsewhere than at that Congress, including Seminars, Workshops, Colloquia & Symposia.  Many of our events were accompanied by Abstracts in one form or another, varying from single summaries to longer accounts.  They appear on this site at present through the Posts for their specific Events.

Here we list them in alphabetical order for each event, with references to their Abstracts as represented on this site or elsewhere.

Note:  Elsewhere on our website appear the Abstracts, concise or extended, for the presentations in our series of Seminars on “The Evidence of Manuscripts”.  They constitute a closed and pioneering set of events which helped to develop and to refine our collaborative, collegial, approach to the study of manuscripts and their contexts.

Those events comprise a focused group, which paved the way both for the publication of the Illustrated Catalogue of Insular, Anglo-Saxon, and Early Anglo-Norman Manuscript Art at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge (1997) and for the further events which followed the move of the principal base of the Research Group on Manuscript Evidence to the United States in 1994. Among them are the Sessions and other activities at the Annual International Congress on Medieval Studies; multiple Publications (including our website in its first and current versions), and the series of Symposia, Workshops, and Colloquia listed here.

Poster for "Shaping Understanding" Colloquium (March 2002)The Abstracts, detailed to various degrees, of the 33 papers presented at the Colloquium were laid out in single columns in a 14-page Booklet (Princeton: Research Group on Manuscript Evidence, 2002), according with the principles of our Style Manifesto, for distribution at the Colloquium and circulation afterward.  That version is also available online here.

The Abstracts alone, without mentioning the Research Group on Manuscript Evidence, were reprinted in double-column layout in the Old English Newsletter, 35:3 (Spring 2002), A-5–A-15, now available online.

Here we list the authors alphabetically (the publications list them in the order in which their papers were presented), with reference first to the 2002 Colloquium Booklet and then to the OEN.
